“Power Trip” Debut Presentation

"Power Trip" Debut Presentation

Where does NYC's electricity come from? People were buzzing about the debut public presentation of Power Trip, CUP's Urban Investigation about New York City's electricity infrastructure. To get to the power source, CUP, teaching artist Samantha Contis, and NYC public high school students interviewed energy experts, toured power plants, and peered down manholes. We created a booklet and poster that helps to break down the energy supply chain.

On June 25, 2012 at 6:45 pm at Anthology Film Archives there was a screening of a selection from the groundbreaking documentary Harlan County, USA; a presentation of the students' whirlwind investigative tour; and a panel discussion with energy luminaries moderated by students. The panel asked "Who is responsible for how much energy we use?" and featured Howard Slatkin, the Department of City Planning's Director of Sustainability, Anthony Giancatarino from the Center for Social Inclusion, and Margarett Jolly, Con Edison's Distributed Generation Ombudswoman.
