As CUP’s Youth Education programs have transitioned to remote learning, students are leading the charge! Students from Life Sciences Secondary School in East Harlem recently debuted Swipe Out, their latest investigation into the MTA’s crackdown on fare evasion.

CUP teamed up with the students and Teaching Artist Stephen Kwok to investigate the impact of fare evasion on local communities. Students installed public artwork, surveyed community members, and interviewed key stakeholders working on the issue. The crew gathered what they learned to Swipe Out — a foldout poster that breaks down the issue.

Students recently debuted Swipe Out to a live online audience. Watch their online debut here and learn more about their project here!
