Two New Calls for City Studies Teaching Artists

Two New Calls for City Studies Teaching Artists

New Call for teaching artist for City Studies class on neighborhood change | East Williamsburg | 3-session project

We're seeking a teaching artist to design and implement a 3-session project for high school students at the Lyons Community School in East Williamsburg. CUP's project-based curricula enable students to explore fundamental questions about how the city works through collaborative research and design.

This project will be a part of an interdisciplinary 10th grade class on neighborhood change and converging cultures. Students will seek out visual, anecdotal, and factual evidence of neighborhood change near their school. The class meets Tuesdays, 12:30 to 3:30 pm, on April 17, April 24, and May 1.

CUP teaching artists/designers work with CUP staff to develop course ideas, schedules, lesson plans, and to document the project. Teaching artists produce a designed final product in collaboration with the students and CUP. The teaching artist will be paid $825, and there is a separate budget for materials and other project costs.

This project will be part of an English class and will focus on developing students' ability to express and distill ideas through visual metaphors. The class will investigate a neighborhood issue to be determined by CUP and the teaching artist, in collaboration with the school. The class takes place from April 30 through May 14 from 2 to 3 pm.

CUP teaching artists/designers work with CUP staff to develop course ideas, schedules, lesson plans, and to document the project. Teaching artists produce a designed final product in collaboration with the students and CUP.
