Two new City Studies projects!

Two new _City Studies_ projects!

This past fall, CUP partnered with the Academy of Urban Planning in Bushwick for two new City Studies projects!

CUP collaborated with Teaching Artist Aubrey Murdock and Aisha Haynes-Harrison’s 10th grade English class to figure out what it means for a school to be labeled a "renewal school." The students interviewed a panel of experts from the school’s own administration, a representative of the Coalition for Educational Justice, and a Community School Coordinator. They created a booklet, New School on the Block, to help others understand the School Renewal Program and what people think about these new changes.

CUP also collaborated with Teaching Artist Leon Anthony James and Sean Haberman’s Global History Regents Prep class to learn about the New York State Returnable Container Act, or the Bottle Bill. This law was created to reduce litter and to encourage recycling, but how does it impact our communities? They talked to a former canner and co-founder of the Bushwick recycling center Sure We Can, and created a postcard, Bottled Up, to share what they learned.
